Ex-KKR Stars' Sageview Discloses 6.46% Stake in Guitar Center (GTRC)

In a 13D this morning on Guitar Center Inc. (Nasdaq: GTRC), Sageview Capital disclosed a 6.46% stake in the company (1.89 million shares).

Sageview Capital said it has had, and may have in the future, discussions with management of the Company and may make suggestions concerning the Company's operations, prospects, business and financial strategies, assets and liabilities, business and financing alternatives and such other matters as the Reporting Persons may deem relevant to their investments in the Common Stock and other securities of the Company.

Sageview Capital is a "hybrid fund" that uses a private equity approach to public-market investing, as well as making opportunistic private investments. The fund was started by two ex-stars at private equity giant Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), Ned Gilhuly and Scott Stuart.

Stuart spent 19 years at KKR, where he was a partner and a member of the firm's investment committee. Gilhuly joined KKR in 1986, and was also a member of the firm's investment committee.
